First published in Germany as 'Die Sidler Von Catan', “the Settlers of Catan”, or Catan is a multiplayer board game crafted by Klaus Teuber. In this settling play, the players play the role of Settlers, everyone trying to build and develop holdings while trading as well as taking out the resources.

The players can earn points when their settlements grow. The player who reaches to a number of points wins the game. The gameboard, representing the Island, is made of hexes of different land types. The latest editions of the Catan game brings out a fixed layout in their manual.

By spending resources like brick, lumber, wool, grain, and ore, the players build properties. Excluding the barren desert, all other lands are productive in their nature. Two six-sided dice are rolled when a player’s turn comes to decide which hexes bring out resources.

A robber token is also included in this Catan board game, primarily placed on a desert. When the turn of a player comes, he or she may use the resource cards within each other. They can also trade-off island at a ratio of four to one resource to one of any other.

The mission of the Catan game is to reach ten victory points. When a player owns a settlement, he or she wins a point and two for a city. In addition to it, there are also other achievements like constructing the longest roads and the largest army by playing the most number of knight cards. These can provide a player more points.

The resource cards can also be utilized to purchase a development card. There are three types of development cards, one which is worth one victory point, another one named as the knight cards. The knight cards permit the player to move the robber, and the third one allows the player with one of three abilities when played.
